National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, Western Route
Named after the Franciscan Friar and Apostle of California, Junipero Serra, the Western route of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage started in San Francisco this past weekend. The Little Sisters at St. Anne’s Home were honored to host a few of the Eucharistic Pilgrims at St. Anne’s Home on the days leading up to their departure for Indianapolis.
Everyone was looking forward to participating in the best way that they could to share in the joy of the pilgrimage. A few of our Little Sisters were able to be a part of the special Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral and were even able to accompany the Eucharist across the Golden Gate Bridge. The young people who stayed with us were very excited and enthused about the entire program. We were happy to witness the faith and dedication they showed. It was truly admirable.
Sr. Diane recounted: While I was walking across the bridge, a woman came up and asked me if I was a Little Sister of the Poor. Of course, the answer was yes. Then she told me her niece was a Little Sister too, but she couldn’t remember her religious name. After a few more questions I figured out that she was talking about Sr. Christian! I told her that I would let her know that we processed with the Eucharist across the Golden Gate Bridge together. What a small world!
On Monday, our Residents joined together in seeing the pilgrims off on their two-month journey that will cover 2,200 miles from San Francisco to Indianapolis. We were all very grateful for having had the opportunity to participate in this momentous event for all Catholics across our country.
