Young Visitors from Congregation Emanu-El
On the 5th Sunday of Lent and St. Patrick’s day to boot, we were happy to welcome the 1st and 2nd graders from Congregation Emanu-El, our longtime neighbors on Arguello Street, who walked to our Home in order to hand deliver gift baskets for our Residents.
They celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim during the month of March and one of the things they do for the holiday is to give a gift basket.
They used to do this pre-pandemic and asked if they could start again. The object of the gift giving is to teach about loving kindness.
The baskets were made by the children and contain many practical items for the Residents. They also included cards made by the children with the wish for peace. Some of the residents were able to go down to the lobby to greet them and were happy to receive the cards and baskets.
We were able to share our books about St. Jeanne Jugan with them and about the mission of the Home.
One little girl said that she and her mother would be back to visit us sometime. We are happy that this “tradition” has begun once again.
